Luke James, the Grammy-nominated R&B sensation and accomplished actor, is set to grace the Broadway stage in the new musical "Wanted." He will portray the character of Elijah, adding his talent to an already stellar ensemble. This production promises a compelling narrative, deeply rooted in historical events, and is anticipated to captivate audiences with its unique storyline and musical prowess.

The musical "Wanted" is described as a "mostly true story," drawing its inspiration from Texas in the year 1893. The plot centers on two Black twin sisters, Mary and Martha Clarke, who navigate society by passing as white. Their journey is fraught with challenges as they are compelled to take drastic measures to safeguard their mother and preserve their family's heritage. This powerful tale of identity, struggle, and resilience forms the core of the production.

James will share the stage with a remarkable cast. Solea Pfeiffer, known for her role in "Hadestown," will play Mary Clarke, while Liisi LaFontaine from "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" takes on the role of Martha Clarke. The 16-time Grammy-nominated R&B vocalist Ledisi will star as Tallulah Clarke. The show is slated to commence previews at the esteemed James Earl Jones Theatre on October 15, with its official opening night scheduled for November 8.

The creative team behind "Wanted" includes Angelica Chéri, a descendant of the Sisters Clarke, who penned the book and lyrics. The music is composed by Ross Baum. Direction for the musical is provided by Tony Award nominee and Obie Award winner Stevie Walker-Webb, with Chelsey Arce responsible for the choreography. James's involvement follows his notable roles in the critically acclaimed Paramount+ series "The Chi" as Victor "Trig" Taylor and his previous Broadway appearance in Keenan Scott II’s "Thoughts of a Colored Man" in 2021. His film credits include "Little" alongside Regina Hall and Issa Rae, and the Amazon Prime series "Them: The Scare."

Further developments for the production include New Ventures Entertainment, an entertainment media and production firm, joining as general partners. P3 Productions is producing "Wanted." Additional casting details and creative team members are expected to be unveiled in the near future. The musical previously saw productions at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, in 2020, and subsequently at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, New Jersey, in 2024, garnering attention and acclaim even before its Broadway debut.

The upcoming Broadway debut of "Wanted" marks a significant moment for the theatrical world, bringing a historically inspired narrative to life with a talented cast and creative team. Luke James's leading role as Elijah is poised to be a highlight, further cementing his versatile career across music and acting. With its compelling story of survival and identity, the musical is set to be a powerful addition to the current Broadway season.
